The capacity of the internal hard disk drive is 10 GB. (A 20 GB drive is also available.) The drive uses the Ultra IDE (integrated drive electronics) interface, which is also referred to as the Ultra ATA interface. The implementation of the ATA interface on the iBook computer is a subset of the ATA/IDE specification, ANSI proposal X3T10/0948D, Revision 2K (ATA-2).
The software that supports the internal hard disk is similar to that in previous Macintosh PowerBook models with internal IDE drives and includes DMA support. For the information about that software, see the references in ATA Devices.
